In the NHL, we look at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 playoffs, with the Florida Panthers taking the Stanley Cup title over the Edmonton Oilers in an epic 7 game series. Then we look at the preseason rankings of every team as well as the key players to look out for in the NHL. We take some time to review the legendary career of Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, our favorite player of all time, as he is trying to make history this year and shatter all of Wayne Gretzky's records which always seemed unbeatable.
Next, we do a preview of the NBA Finals from last year and the Boston Celtics Championship run through a tough Playoffs field. We go over all teams' preseason rankings and prospects for the year, and look at each of the top 15 players in the NBA and what kind of season they are going to have. Finally we do our Sports Guyz picks of each league, who we think are the teams who will make to the final series and win their respective championships.

Napoleon Bonaparte - Emperor of France - Conqueror of Europe - 25 Interesting Facts
On Traveling Through History, we take a look at one of the most consequential leaders in world history, Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon rose from humble beginnings to become the Emperor of France and the conqueror of 80 percent of the countries in Europe before he was deposed in 1815 and exiled to St. Helena Island.
Napoleon the 1st was born August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica and died May 5, 1821 in exile on St. Helena Island. He was a French General, First Consul (1799–1804), and Emperor of the French (1804–1814/15), one of the most celebrated personages in the history of the West. He revolutionized military organization and training; sponsored the Napoleonic Code, the prototype of later civil-law codes; reorganized education; and established the long-lived Concordat with the papacy.
Napoleon’s many reforms left a lasting mark on the institutions of France and of much of Western Europe. But his driving passion was the military expansion of French dominion, and, though at his fall he left France little larger than it had been at the outbreak of the Revolution in 1789, he was almost unanimously revered during his lifetime and until the end of the Second Empire under his nephew Napoleon III as one of history’s great heroes.
He seemed to be the man of the Revolution because it was due to the Revolution that he had climbed at so early an age to the highest place in the state. He did not believe in the sovereignty of the people, in the popular will, or in parliamentary debate. Yet he put his confidence more in reasoning than in reason and may be said to have preferred “men of talent”—mathematicians, jurists, and statesmen, for instance, however cynical or mercenary they might be—to “technicians” in the true sense of the word. He believed that an enlightened and firm will could do anything if it had the support of bayonets; he despised and feared the masses; and, as for public opinion, he considered that he could mold and direct it as he pleased.
We review a short video about the history of Napoleon and his life and discuss the most important points about this important historical figure in world history. We also take a quick look at a scene from the movie "Napoleon" showing his final battle and his loss at Waterloo that ended his military career and reign as emperor.

Rutherford B Hayes and the Most Controversial Election in American History
To kick off election week of 2024, we have our election special! On Traveling Through History, we take a deep look at the 7 most controversial elections in United States History, beginning with the Thomas Jefferson election of 1800 decided in the House of Representatives, all the way to the close 2000 election decided by 500 votes in the State of Florida which gave George W. Bush the Presidency. In between we take a deep look at the most controversial election of all 1876 and the election of Rutherford B. Hayes.
The United States presidential election of 1876, was the most disputed and had the most amount of proven fraud and election engineering by both sides in our history. The presidential election was held on November 7, 1876, in which Republican Rutherford B. Hayes defeated Democrat Samuel J. Tilden. Tilden led Hayes by more than 260,000 popular votes, and preliminary returns showed Tilden with 184 electoral votes (one shy of the majority needed to win the election) to Hayes’s 165, with the 19 electoral votes of three states (Florida, Louisiana, and South Carolina) and one elector from Oregon (originally awarded to Tilden) still in doubt. The U.S. Congress subsequently created an Electoral Commission, which by early March 1877 had resolved all the disputed electoral votes in favor of Hayes, giving him a 185–184 electoral college victory.
While the congressional commission was deliberating, Republican allies of Hayes engaged with moderate Southern Democrats in secret negotiations aimed at securing acquiescence to Hayes’s election. Although Bradley leaned toward Tilden’s claim in Florida, he was swayed to back Hayes, and thereafter every action by the Electoral Commission followed a strict 8–7 split in favor of the Republican claims. When the last issue was resolved after 4 am on March 2, Hayes was declared the winner, with a narrow 185–184 majority, and he was sworn in privately the following day (because March 4 was a Sunday, the public swearing in took place on March 5). Although the result was greeted with outrage and bitterness by some Northern Democrats, who dubbed Hayes “His Fraudulency,” Hayes was sworn in without incident. Southern Democrats, however, found relative contentment with the outcome, when, as president, Hayes promptly made good on the secret pledges made during the electoral dispute to withdraw federal troops from states still under military occupation and thus end the era of Reconstruction.
The election was plagued by ballot-stuffing on both sides, intimidation by groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and the "red coats" at polling places to discourage minorities and other groups from voting, and general electioneering to slant the vote each way. Many thousands of fraud cases were proven by documentary evidence and affidavit. The Congress considered in January 1877 if a new election should be called.
We review a video about the history of the 1876 Election and discuss the most important points about this important historical moment in our country's history.

Dead Sea Scrolls - Most Important Archaeological Find of the 20th Century
On Traveling Through History we take a close look at the history of the Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient texts that was found accidentally in 1947 by a passing boy who was trying to herd his goat. He stumbled upon one of the greatest finds in human history in a cave in Qumran (Jordan at the time, now Israel) next to the Dead Sea.
The Dead Sea Scrolls are considered by many to be the most significant archaeological find of the 20th century. From 1947 to 1956, thousands of scroll fragments were uncovered from the caves near Qumran. Over the following decades, teams of scholars pieced these scrolls together to reconstruct an amazing library of texts from the third century B.C.E. to the first century C.E.
These texts date from the eighth century B.C.E. to the seventh century C.E. and record the life and activities of the people who lived in and passed through these regions. While the scrolls from Qumran are in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, other scrolls are written in Latin, Arabic, and even Nabatean. The scrolls cover a wide range of topics and genres. Perhaps the most interesting are the biblical scrolls, which include texts from every book of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), with the possible exception of Esther. Other scrolls are Jewish sectarian writings, administrative documents, deeds of sale, and even divorce and marriage records.
Despite the name, the majority of the scrolls are preserved as fragments, small scraps of what were once larger scrolls and documents. These were written on various materials, from leather to papyrus. While some scrolls are several feet long, many smaller fragments are no larger than a fingertip. To date, more than 25,000 fragments have been discovered, and extensive work has gone into combining, preserving, translating, and studying these various fragments.
The scrolls illuminate the Bible’s composition over the millennia. Prior to their discovery, the earliest surviving copies of the Hebrew Bible dated to around 1000 C.E. The scrolls are a millennium earlier. Scholars are able to see continuity between the scrolls and later biblical manuscripts. Yet they also have found some variation. For example, some scrolls of Exodus and Samuel from Qumran preserve passages that were absent from later biblical manuscripts. These might represent different traditions that were circulating at the time of the scrolls’ writing—or scribal errors that crept into some manuscripts. The Dead Sea Scrolls are, thus, instrumental in reconstructing biblical texts.
