On this 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, we honor our WW2 veterans who served and those who gave their lives as the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

D-Day Invasion - the Day that Turned World War 2
The Normandy landings, codenamed Operation Neptune, were the landing operations on June 6, 1944 (termed D-Day) of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord. Before the landings could take place, the Allies began conducting a military deception codenamed Operation Bodyguard.  The intent of Operation Bodyguard was to deceive the Germans on the date and the location of where the Allies would land. This was achieved through many tactics including fake equipment, fake tanks and planes and ships, a phantom army commanded by George Patton, double agents and fraudulent radio transmissions. In January 1944, Gen. Dwight Eisenhower was appointed commander of Operation Overlord.  Eisenhower chose June 5, 1944, as the original D-day for Operation Neptune, the largest seaborne invasion in history.  The requirements for D-Day to be effective were very specific to include the phase of the moon, the tides, and the time of day, making only a few days in each month ideal for the operation. However, bad weather caused the operation to be delayed 24 hours.Early morning on June 6, more than 24,000 British, American and Canadian airborne troops were on the ground behind enemy lines, securing bridges and exit roads.  At 6:30 a.m., the amphibious landings by Allied forces began taking place on the coast of France. The British and Canadians captured beaches codenamed Gold, Juno and Sword, while the Americans captured Utah Beach and Omaha Beach.  However, more than 2,000 U.S. forces were killed while facing heavy resistance at Omaha Beach. The Normandy invasion was a significant psychological blow to the Nazis that prevented Hitler from sending troops from France to build up his Easter Front against the advancing Soviets.  It is considered the turning point in the war that led up to the eventual surrender of Nazi Germany May 8, 1945.

2024 NBA and NHL Finals - Predictions and Analysis - Sports Guyz - Episode 18
We take a look at the 2024 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks, which kicks off play on Thursday, June 6th, by looking at all angles of this matchup.  Our discussion focuses on the key players (Luka, Kyrie, Tatum and Jaylen Brown among others), stats and any edges that the teams have in these Finals.  We make our predictions and even look back at our NBA episode from March to see where we were right and where we were wrong at that time.  This NBA Finals will be a return to "old school" basketball which the Sports Guyz love to watch!
Next, we take a preview look at the NHL hockey finals series coming up between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers for the Stanley Cup!  We review each of the key players, stats and angles to consider when picking a team with the edge in this great series.  Both teams have elite goal tenders, and stars all over the ice.  Each team has made a magical run to the brink of the Stanley Cup so far, and now these two great teams will decide it on the ice.  Likely a long series to go to Game 7, it will be great hockey to watch!

Battle of Antietam - Bloodiest Day in American History and 25 Interesting Facts
The Battle of Antietam is one of the most significant battles of the American Civil War and of American history.  This battle resulted when General Robert E. Lee took his army into the North for the first time.  The second invasion of the North would occur a year later (1863) during the Gettysburg Campaign.
Prior to the battle, Union soldiers had clashed with the Army of Northern Virginia at the Battle of Second Bull Run.  This was a resounding victory for General Robert E. Lee and his Confederate army.  The Battle of Antietam began when the Army of the Potomac under George B. McClellan met the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia at Sharpsburg, Maryland.  The battle would rage for one day and would result in the deadliest day of the American Civil War and of American history.
In the aftermath of the battle President Abraham Lincoln issued his famous Emancipation Proclamation.  Lincoln had been waiting for a Union victory to issues this order.  While the battle was not an outright victory for the Union, it was a tactical victory as they held the field.  This was enough for Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation.  The Emancipation Proclamation prevented France and Great Britain from joining the Confederacy and aiding them by making the war truly about slavery.
In this episode we go over all aspects of this important battle and one of the turning points of the Civil War.  We review a short video and then we go over 25 Interesting Facts about the battle that you might not know.

Lewis and Clark Expedition - American Exploration of the West
The Lewis and Clark Expedition began in 1804, when President Thomas Jefferson tasked Meriwether Lewis with exploring the lands west of the Mississippi River that comprised the Louisiana Purchase.  Lewis chose William Clark as his co-leader for the mission.  The excursion lasted over two years, over 8,000 plus miles of new territory.  Along the way they confronted harsh weather, unforgiving terrain, treacherous waters, injuries, starvation, disease and both friendly and hostile Native Americans.   Nevertheless, the journey was deemed a huge success and provided new geographic, ecological and cultural information about previously uncharted areas of North America.
In this episode, we give a detailed overview of the Expedition by Lewis and Clark's "Corps of Discovery" - 45 brave souls who explored territories unknown for the new country, to include areas of the Louisiana Purchase and west to the Pacific coast.  We detail the incredible obstacles they had to overcome, with the aid of Sacagawea, their Indian guide, as well as many friendly Indian tribes along the way.
