Hindenburg Disaster - Before and After the Tragedy and Live Footage
In this episode on Traveling Through History, we start our "disaster series" by taking a look back to 1937, when the largest air ship in history, the Hindenburg, unexpectedly caught fire and crashed to the ground killing many people on board. The event was video-taped and broadcast all over the world, shocking TV viewers and ending the industry of transatlantic air ships for good.
The Hindenburg was a 245-metre- (804-foot-) long airship of conventional zeppelin design that was launched at Friedrichshafen, Germany, in March 1936. It had a maximum speed of 135 km (84 miles) per hour and a cruising speed of 126 km (78 miles) per hour. Though it was designed to be filled with helium gas, the airship was filled with highly flammable hydrogen because of export restrictions by the United States against Nazi Germany. In 1936 the Hindenburg inaugurated commercial air service across the North Atlantic by carrying 1,002 passengers on 10 scheduled round trips between Germany and the United States.
On May 6, 1937, while landing at Lakehurst, New Jersey, on the second of its scheduled 1937 transatlantic crossings, the Hindenburg burst into flames and was completely destroyed. Of the 97 persons aboard, 35 were killed. One member of the ground crew also perished. The fire was officially attributed to a discharge of atmospheric electricity in the vicinity of a hydrogen gas leak from the airship, though it was speculated that the dirigible had been the victim of an anti-Nazi act of sabotage. The Hindenburg disaster, which was recorded on film and on phonograph disc, marked the end of the use of rigid airships in commercial air transportation.

Rivalry UPSET Weekend Update - December 2nd 2024 - Sports Guyz
The Sports Guyz do a detailed review of another PACKED weekend of sports, primarily great college football games with lots of upsets and playoff implications, and NFL games of consequence. We look at the key rivalry games, many of which decided whether a team is getting into its conference championship game or has a chance at the playoff. A lot of these games ended up in big on-field brawls afterwards and we discuss the ramifications of that. Again, this insane season of college football never disappoints weekend after weekend. We go ahead and give our predictions on which teams we think will win each college football conference championship game.
In the NFL, we continue to see a few teams separating from the rest of the league, and the playoff picture is starting to really take shape, so we take a look at where it stands now. We go over some of the recent NFL coach firings and discuss which job is the best opening, and we review some funny NFL memes from the week.

Flag Planting Controversy - How to prevent fighting at football games - SHORT
The Sports Guyz take a look at rivalry weekend in college football and the following day in the NFL, and the controversy that has arisen with many brawls and fights taking place on the field. Often these conflicts between teams were between heated rivals and were instigated by the winning team trying to plant their flag at the center of the field in an opposing team's stadium - a disrespectful move that begs for a response from the team and coaches and administration.
We look at some of the examples of these situations that happened on Saturday and then some NFL teams that also skirmished the next day, and discuss some solutions and ways to prevent this from happening. We also discuss how to regulate this practice, while not taking all the fun out of the game and the rivalries.

Flag Planting Controversy - How to prevent fighting at football games - SHORT
The Sports Guyz take a look at rivalry weekend in college football and the following day in the NFL, and the controversy that has arisen with many brawls and fights taking place on the field. Often these conflicts between teams were between heated rivals and were instigated by the winning team trying to plant their flag at the center of the field in an opposing team's stadium - a disrespectful move that begs for a response from the team and coaches and administration.
We look at some of the examples of these situations that happened on Saturday and then some NFL teams that also skirmished the next day, and discuss some solutions and ways to prevent this from happening. We also discuss how to regulate this practice, while not taking all the fun out of the game and the rivalries.

Henry Reviews VAN HALEN - "1984" Album
Henry Peralta of the band Blue Monday and Wild Card reviews Van Halen "1984 Album" - the iconic album by a band that was one of the dominant sounds on radio and a permanent fixture on MTV with their iconic videos. Henry is joined by Rob Pope who is Tom Pope's partner on the Sports Guyz Podcast, to discuss Rob's favorite band, Van Halen, and to bring the podcast a lot of funny stories about Van Halen and their crazy behind the scenes antics and wild behavior. Rob and Henry also break down each track on the album and some history behind each song.
1984 is the sixth studio album by American rock band Van Halen, released on January 9, 1984. It was the last Van Halen studio album until A Different Kind of Truth (2012) to feature lead singer David Lee Roth, who left the band in 1985 following creative differences with Eddie Van Halen. This is the final full-length album to feature all four original members (the Van Halen brothers Eddie and Alex, Roth, and Michael Anthony), although they reunited briefly in 2000 to start work on what would much later become 2012's A Different Kind of Truth. 1984 and Van Halen's self-titled debut album are the band's best-selling albums, each having sold more than 10 million copies each in the United States.
Following the tour in support of their fourth studio album, Fair Warning, the band initially wanted to slow down and take a break. They released just one single, "(Oh) Pretty Woman"/"Happy Trails", intended to be a stand-alone release. However, the band's label asked for another album due to the A-side's success and the band recorded their fifth studio album, Diver Down, very quickly. Following the recording of the album, guitarist Eddie Van Halen was dissatisfied by the concessions he had made to Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth and Warner Bros. producer Ted Templeman. Both discouraged Eddie from making keyboards a prominent instrument in the band's music.
By 1983, Eddie was in the process of building his own studio, naming it 5150 after the California law code for the temporary, involuntary psychiatric commitment of individuals (who present a danger to themselves or others due to signs of mental illness), with Donn Landee, the band's longtime engineer (and later, producer on the 5150 and OU812 recordings). While boards and tape machines were being installed, Eddie began working on synthesizers to pass the time. "There were no presets," said Templeman. "He would just twist off until it sounded right." There, he composed Van Halen's follow-up to Diver Down without as much perceived "interference" from Roth or Templeman. The result was a compromise between the two creative factions in the band: a mixture of keyboard-heavy songs, and the guitar-driven hard rock for which the band was known. 1984 was the longest-in-the-making album of the band's career to date, taking about three months to record.

Henry Reviews VAN HALEN - "1984" Album
Henry Peralta of the band Blue Monday and Wild Card reviews Van Halen "1984 Album" - the iconic album by a band that was one of the dominant sounds on radio and a permanent fixture on MTV with their iconic videos. Henry is joined by Rob Pope who is Tom Pope's partner on the Sports Guyz Podcast, to discuss Rob's favorite band, Van Halen, and to bring the podcast a lot of funny stories about Van Halen and their crazy behind the scenes antics and wild behavior. Rob and Henry also break down each track on the album and some history behind each song.
1984 is the sixth studio album by American rock band Van Halen, released on January 9, 1984. It was the last Van Halen studio album until A Different Kind of Truth (2012) to feature lead singer David Lee Roth, who left the band in 1985 following creative differences with Eddie Van Halen. This is the final full-length album to feature all four original members (the Van Halen brothers Eddie and Alex, Roth, and Michael Anthony), although they reunited briefly in 2000 to start work on what would much later become 2012's A Different Kind of Truth. 1984 and Van Halen's self-titled debut album are the band's best-selling albums, each having sold more than 10 million copies each in the United States.
Following the tour in support of their fourth studio album, Fair Warning, the band initially wanted to slow down and take a break. They released just one single, "(Oh) Pretty Woman"/"Happy Trails", intended to be a stand-alone release. However, the band's label asked for another album due to the A-side's success and the band recorded their fifth studio album, Diver Down, very quickly. Following the recording of the album, guitarist Eddie Van Halen was dissatisfied by the concessions he had made to Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth and Warner Bros. producer Ted Templeman. Both discouraged Eddie from making keyboards a prominent instrument in the band's music.
By 1983, Eddie was in the process of building his own studio, naming it 5150 after the California law code for the temporary, involuntary psychiatric commitment of individuals (who present a danger to themselves or others due to signs of mental illness), with Donn Landee, the band's longtime engineer (and later, producer on the 5150 and OU812 recordings). While boards and tape machines were being installed, Eddie began working on synthesizers to pass the time. "There were no presets," said Templeman. "He would just twist off until it sounded right." There, he composed Van Halen's follow-up to Diver Down without as much perceived "interference" from Roth or Templeman. The result was a compromise between the two creative factions in the band: a mixture of keyboard-heavy songs, and the guitar-driven hard rock for which the band was known. 1984 was the longest-in-the-making album of the band's career to date, taking about three months to record.
